In the early days of video gaming, two Italian plumbers named Mario and Luigi became household names. The characters first appeared in the 1983 classic arcade game Mario Bros., and subsequently went on to star in some of the most popular video games of all time, including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, and Mario Kart.
So who were these guys? What was their story?
Turns out, not much is known about them. In fact, their last name has never even been revealed. All we really know is that they hailed from the Mushroom Kingdom, and they liked to eat mushrooms (which gave them special powers).
They also had a penchant for rescuing Princess Peach from the evil Bowser. Why they always had to rescue her is anyone’s guess, but it seems like she couldn’t stay out of trouble.
Despite their many adventures together, Mario and Luigi always seemed to be in competition with each other. They were always trying to one-up each other, whether it was in sports or in business.
But at the end of the day, they were still brothers, and they loved each other dearly. And that’s really all we need to know about them.
So there you have it: a brief history of Mario and Luigi. Two of the most iconic characters in video game history, who despite their many adventures, remain something of a mystery. But that’s what makes them so special. We may never know everything about them, but their story is one that will be told for generations to come.
